What a St. Petersburg kitchen usually needs
In the pre-war neighborhoods — Kenwood, Old Northeast, Crescent Lake — the kitchen was built as a closed service room, and the wall between it and the dining room is nearly always the first thing to go. Sometimes that wall carries load and sometimes it does not. We open the ceiling and find out before a number goes on paper, not after.
In the block ranches south and west of downtown the layout usually works. What does not is an original panel with no room for a modern appliance run, and cast iron drains that are due. Those two lines decide the budget far more often than the cabinet choice does.

Coastal humidity never lets up
Between the Gulf and the bay a St. Pete house runs humid most of the year with the windows shut and the air on. Particleboard cabinet boxes swell, unsealed stone stains and cheap hinges give up. We specify for the climate rather than for the showroom.
Plaster, not drywall
The pre-war neighborhoods are plaster over wood lath, which does not cut, patch or hold a fixing the way drywall does. Working with it, rather than tearing out a whole wall because that is quicker, is most of what separates a careful job here from a cheap one.

Usually. In St. Pete bungalows that wall is often non-structural, and where it does carry load a flush beam handles it without dropping the ceiling line. What we will not do is quote it blind — we open the ceiling and confirm first, because the difference between the two answers is significant enough that you should not find it out mid-project.
In a 1950s or 60s house with its original panel, quite possibly — an induction range, a dishwasher, a disposal and a microwave add up fast. We check what you have at the estimate and tell you plainly if it needs an electrician’s attention before the new kitchen goes in, so it is planned for rather than discovered.
For a full replacement, plan on three to five weeks from demo to the last handle — and that clock only starts once the cabinets and stone are physically in our hands. Refacing or a countertop swap is usually under a week. We set up a temporary sink and fridge space so the household keeps running.
